Create an article

What will I learn to do

This lesson will show you the steps to edit an article.

An article may need to be edited before publication to address comments made by the administrator or other editors, or to add new information.

Some parts of the article also will need to be formatted for the page.

The administrator may send you a message asking you to make these changes.

INSIDE VIEW

This lesson also includes the steps to format an article: to add subheadings, quotation marks, bold, italic, and bullets.

You will see what the changes look like. Then you have a chance to try it yourself.

CAUTION

If you have already submitted the article for publication, the administrator might be working on it.

You can still modify it, but you should let the administrator know first that you need to make changes.

However, once it is published you cannot modify the article without permission. The administrator would have to reverse the article’s status to one that is not published, so that you could modify it.

First, watch the steps

You are at the Launch pad.

Look in the list of "Your articles in progress."

- Click on the article you want to edit

The Article page loads.

- Click on “Modify this article” icon

The Modify page loads.

From here, you can make any necessary changes in the title, text, or other parts of the article.

- You can delete or add words just as you would in any document
- You can edit the story to answer questions from editors
- When you are finished – don’t forget to save the changes

DEMONSTRATION

Modify an article

Can I edit the story more than once?

There is no limit to the number of times you can modify a story in SPIP. However, the administrator and other editors might get confused, or get tired of re-reading it. If you continue to make changes for days before publishing, the story may not be timely any more.

In some cases it may be better to proceed with publication. You can write a short update or add more information to the story later. You might alert your audience that an update is coming by adding a note at the end of the article.

Ask your administrator for guidance.

Why would I add formatting to an article?

On the Modify page, you can also format the text, using for instance subheadings, quotation marks, bold and italic fonts.

The subheadings and other graphics make the story look more interesting on the page.

AUDIENCE VIEW

Without them, an article would only be a gray block of type.

It will look like this when you are done.
