What will I learn to do?

AUDIENCE VIEW

‎ ‎

An important feature of SPIP is that you can use and write in many different languages, such as English, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, Sanskrit, Chinese...

SPIP can easily display several languages on the same page, such as the home page, without any problems.‎

By using multiple languages, you can enlarge your audience, interesting more people to visit your site. You can for instance link an article to its translation(s). This is a feature that will attract multilingual users.

In this lesson, you’ll learn to set the language for an article or a news item.

You will also learn how to create a translation of an article, and how to link an article to its translation(s).

‎ Remember, you can also choose the language that you see in the private area according to your personal preference. ‎

How do I set the language of an article?

CAUTION

‎ Your administrator must enable the use of multiple languages in order for you to use this feature.

The administrator sets the default languages of the sections, and also pre-selects which languages you can choose from for your articles.

If the language you want to use does not display on the drop-down menus, ask your administrator to add it. ‎

When you create a new article, the article’s default language is the one of the section that it is in. However you should change that, if you write an article in a different language.
