The Launch pad looks like this when you log in:

The Launch pad is the main page of the private area on your site. All the tools to publish content on the site start from here.

To work in the Launch pad, and to get the most out of the SPIP site, it is important to know its parts and understand the functions of each icon.

This is what you are going to learn in this lesson.

You will also learn how to assign a logo to your user name and where to change your personal information.

What are the main parts of the Launch pad?

Go to the login page and sign in: the Launch pad loads.

The Launch pad can be divided into four parts:
- the top main icons
- the toolbar
- the left column
- the right column

What are the main top icons?

There are eight in total but only six are visible for the editors, the two additional icons appear when an administrator logs in.

- Launch pad: When working anywhere in the private area, clicking on this icon brings you back to the Launch pad.

- Site edit: It can be used to navigate within the different sections of your site.

- Forums: It is used to access the forums, and to moderate them if you have the right privileges on the site.

- Authors: This icon allows you to access and edit the list of authors.

- Help: Opens the SPIP online help page.

- Visit the site: To access the public web site home page.

The two additional icons only administrators can see

Users who have administrator status can see two additional icons: Statistics and Configuration.
