What will I learn to do?
Statistics page in the private area:

Whereas it is possible for a printed newspaper to measure its success against the quantity sold, for an online magazine the method to evaluate its reach is different.
Using the statistics in SPIP, you can get informations such as:
How many visitors have come to your site?
Which websites do your visitors come from?
What has been the most read article since the site creation?
What is the most read article amongst the most recently published ones?
How have the visits of your whole site - or of any of its articles - evolved over a given week, a month, or even a year ?
In this lesson, you will become familiar with notions such as Visits Origin, Referer and Popularity.
You will learn to get information from the statistics provided by SPIP.
You can get additionnal statistics information using two other types of tools :
the first kind relies on the logs of your server (ex: Webalizer or AWStats). They can be included in your hosting pack: ask your hosting provider!
the second kind uses a "marker technology" (ex: XiTi or Google analytics). Available online, you may need to pay for these services.
Where can I find the statistics of my whole site in SPIP?

To access the Statistics page, click on the Statistics icon in the main menu bar.
It will first display the entire site statistics.
If you cannot see the Statistics icon, make sure that the Visits statistics function is enabled in the Advanced functions of the Site configuration.

Where can I find the statistics of a given article?
To find the Statistics page of an article, there are 3 main options:

In the private area, on the Article page, click on the “Visits level” link in the upper left part of the page

In the private area, if your article is listed in the entire site Statistics page, you can access the article statistics by clicking on its link.

From the public site, if you have been already connected to the private area, you can also find a link to the article statistics in the top right corner of the page.
These 3 ways will all lead you to the same article Statistics page.
How many visitors have come to my site or my article?
A visit for the entire site is accounted every time someone starts to navigate in your site.
To find the number of visits for your site:
First graph: visits level over the last 4 months

Go to the site Statistics page
In the upper half of the main area, you can find a first graph.
This graph represents the daily number of visits over the last 4 months:
A stick represents the visits for one day
The black curve represents the visits average
Below the graph, you can also find:
the number of visits for the current day (today), the previous day (yesterday)
the total number of visits from the beginning of the site or from the publication of the article (total)
the highest number of daily visits (maximum)
You get the same set of information for any article on its Statistics page.
